Amazon advertising incrementality asks how much business would not have happened without the advertising. Attribution asks which observed purchases qualify for credit under a reporting rule. Both can be useful, but they answer different questions.

A high attributed ROAS may include customers who already intended to buy. New-to-Brand identifies customers under a defined purchase-history rule; it does not establish that advertising caused their first purchase. Treat these metrics as descriptive evidence until the research design supports a causal conclusion.

Define the intervention and comparison

Specify the audience, treatment, products, period and primary outcome before launch. Where a suitable controlled test is available, assignment should determine the comparison. Comparing people who happened to see an ad with those who did not can introduce selection bias.

Check statistical planning, likely effect size and contamination between groups. A small campaign cannot become conclusive merely by being called an experiment. Account access and feature availability determine what can actually be implemented.

Translate the result into contribution

The arithmetic illustrates the economic bridge. It does not demonstrate statistical confidence or remove the need to verify randomisation, uncertainty and other costs. Keep the effect estimate and its uncertainty visible in the decision.

Know what each measurement approach supports

Evidence Useful for Does not establish by itself
Attributed ROAS Reporting credited revenue against spend Additional demand
New-to-Brand Describing purchase history under the metric definition Causality
Amazon Marketing Cloud analysis Exploring observed paths and overlap A valid counterfactual
Brand Lift Assessing surveyed brand perceptions Incremental product sales

AMC can help investigate behaviour, but an observational analysis remains observational unless the design supports stronger inference. Brand Lift addresses perception rather than automatically measuring additional orders.

Make uncertainty part of the decision

When a controlled design is unavailable, document the limitations of matched periods, markets or products. Seasonality, price, distribution and availability can all change outcomes. A simple before-and-after chart should not be presented as proof.

Agree what size of commercially credible effect would justify continuing. An inconclusive result may call for a better design or a narrower question, not indefinite spending. temoa connects measurement with advertising decisions. Discuss the measurement question before choosing a larger budget.
